Wellspring Training & Education
The Wellspring model promotes facility-wide communication for team building, critical problem solving, and program evaluation through structured educational modules and ongoing supervised practice that all employees must make residents their first priority. The model encourages appropriate questions, ideas and innovations that will ultimately benefit the residents
Educational Modules
The centerpiece of the Wellspring program, and a key to successful organizational change, are the educational modules. The unique combination of resident-directed care concepts, staff empowerment, and a clinical component has been shown to successfully change facility climate and culture.
The Wellspring program begins with an interdisciplinary group of line staff, called the Care Resource Team, attending two half-day sessions of extensive training where they learn to approach common problems of long term care residents in a unified, holistic manner.
Upon return to their facility, these teams report to management, educate other staff, review systems and make recommendations for change. Implementation follows, with process, policy and procedure changes reflecting best practices. All residents are integrated into the new program over the course of six months. Evaluation takes place with staff required to review data, identify problems and plan practice changes to reflect improved results.
