Assisted Living Regulations Proposal
In May of 2007, the Office of Health Care Quality proposed a major revision of the assisted living regulations. This proposal was the compilation of five years of discussion. In printing the proposal, OHCQ repealed the current regulations in their entirety and replaced it with the revised May 2007 draft.
In February 2008 and August 2008, OHCQ made changes to the initial May 2007 draft. The August 2008 draft also made changes to the changes contained in the February 2008 draft. In order to understand the complete changes, you need to review the May 2007 draft and then check each section against the February 2008 and August 2008 drafts to determine if any changes were made to the original May 2007 draft. Again, these remain only proposed changes.
LifeSpan anticipates that the regulations will take final effect in mid-fall 2008. At that time, LifeSpan will be able to combine each draft and release one complete version of the regulation. In the meantime, LifeSpan members have received a chart comparing current regulations to the changes proposed in the three drafts. If you have not received this chart, please contact Danna Kauffman at dkauffman@lifespan-network.org.
