FAMLI – What we learned during “soft launch”

Dear Stakeholders,
Several thousand employers and TPAs registered with FAMLI over the last few months during our “soft launch.” They provided invaluable insights into how our systems are working and–most importantly–where we can make improvements. Thank you!
We’re writing to share some learnings and changes we made because of them:
- Some of our instructions and language needed to be clearer. For example, employers expressed confusion about the registration steps, including how to create a username and password with Login.gov before creating a FAMLI account or how to use their existing Login.gov information to create a FAMLI account.
Solution: we published a page so employers can better understand employer registration, simplified our language, and made the instructions more direct.
- There was confusion around the role of Third-Party Agents (TPAs).Employers and TPAs alike had questions about how to properly register so they had the right capabilities. They also asked questions about how to connect their accounts after registration.
Solution: we clarified language to make sure employers know that TPAs cannot register on their behalf. We also published a page so TPAs can understand how to manage FAMLI for clients.
- Employers want to know more details about what comes next. Registration is the first step toward compliance, but employers want to understand what else they need to do and when they need to do it.
Solution: we published resources for upcoming milestones so employers can prepare now to submit quarterly reports and make contributions.
